Nuclear experts to release two new documentary series on Science Day

Information centers will celebrate Russian national Science day by presenting two new documentary series «Nuclear encyclopedia» and «Founders of the nuclear age». The documentaries were created on the commission of Rosatom State Corporation to be included to Kurchatov’s media library collection of information centers network and added to their Cinema-Lectorium program for 2012.

 

Event dedicated to Science day will be attended by partners and friends of centers network: representatives of industry organizations, education authorities, largest universities, teaching staff, university students and high school students, overall more than thousand people.

 

Meeting of «Founders of the nuclear age» script writer and nuclear industry veteran V. P. Nasonov with school and university students of Smolensk region will be the main part of documentary presentation program. This series of films dwells on the career paths of worldwide-known Russian scientists such as A.P Aleksandrov, A. A. Bochvara, N. A. Dollezhal, N. L. Dukhov, Y. B. Zelvidovich, I. V. Kurchatov, A. D. Sakharov, Y. B. Khariton, K. I. Shelkin, E. P. Slavskiy. They had started with creation of nuclear bomb for country’s safety but went even further to achieve global goals for development of new energy industry, fuel cycle and other things which now exist to develop and straighten Russia’s economic independence. School students of 14 Russian regions will become familiar with these series in 2012 as a part of special educational Cinema-Lectorium program.

 

Information center in Vladimir invited its friends and partners to meet with creators of «Nuclear encyclopedia-2». The second cycle includes films on contemporary radiation technology use in medicine and other fields, methods of nuclear legacy implementation, ITER project and protection of nuclear plants. Industry organizations representatives will also inform the centers visitors about innovative projects they plan to implement during the next few years.

 

On the 8th February 2011, exactly one year ago, a number of Science Festival events of information centers network were opened by demonstration of the first cycle of «Nuclear encyclopedia».

 

Note on a history of Russian Science day:

 

Academy of Sciences was founded in Russia on the 8th February, 1724 (28th January according to the old calendar) on edict issued by Directing Senate and order of Peter I. It was re-named twice: in 1925 — to the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, and in 1991 — to the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Russian Science Day was established on 8th February by the edict of the President of the Russian Federation. The edict states that the holyday was established «in accordance with the great role played by national science in the development of the state and society, for the purpose of following historical tradition and celebrating 275th anniversary of Russian Academy of Sciences».
